Life as a volunteer
In our program, all volunteers will stay together with a Vietnamese family unless they request alternative accommodations. The home stay experience in Hanoi is quite different from the experience in Sapa or Bac Ha and it will also differ from family to family.

Normally volunteers will work from Monday to Friday but sometimes the requirements of the group of people they are helping make it necessary to work in the evening or on weekends
.
Volunteers located in Hanoi will spend part of their work time with their host family doing activities such as helping them prepare meals or teaching and communicating in English to their children.  At other times volunteers can go to swimming pools, pubs, bars, or spend time with their local support staff who will teach them Vietnamese language, or show you around the city.

Volunteers located in Sapa or Bac Ha will be busy enjoying the beautiful scenery there. To have good relationship and to gain more experience about the life of hill tribe people, volunteers should prepare meals together with them and help them with the farm work. It should be fun, and meaningful.  Some of the activities might include riding buffalo, harvesting rice or pulling rice seeds by hand. In Sapa town, there are a number of western-style bars and restaurants that may help volunteers to feel more at home.
